Most of Indonesian people love Durian Fruit or Duren. A sign over the entrance to Singapore's substitute reads: "No Durian Allowed". That's because the succulent flesh of this spiky fruit has a ripe and randy odor that is notorious throughout Asia. For every critic however there are scored of addicted fans who find the fruit's redolent quality inexorably linked to its charming flavor. Durian Fruit's notoriety might also be due in part to its reputation as an aphrodisiac. It is expensive on Java where population outstrips supply and the riper unsold fruit is used to flavor ice cream. Durian Fruit is hard to find fresh in the West, but it freezes well and is often sold frozen in Asian markets.
